- Maine Superior Court - The Superior Court handles the following matters:
a) adult criminal cases jury and jury-waived trials, including murder and class A, B, C, D, and E offenses;
b) post-conviction reviews;
c) Civil cases jury and jury-waived trials in, such as car accident lawsuits;
d) cases in which equitable relief is requested, such as an injunction;
e) appeals from decisions of state and local administrative agencies, such as the Department of Human Services and municipal zoning boards.
- District Court Maine - The District court hears both criminal and civil matters. This court hears both civil and criminal matters and always sits without a jury. Civil suits claiming monetary damages, domestic relations cases (divorces, separations, custody and property disputes), and involuntary commitments
- Specialized Courts Maine - Specialized Courts consists of Adult and Juvenile Drug Treatment Court, Family Drug Treatment Courts, Co-Occuring Disorders Court, Family Division (for families and children),Small Claims Court ( for amount less than or equal to $4,500), The Maine Judicial Branch Violations Bureau (process all of Traffic Infractions), and The Business and Consumer Court which handles selected business and consumer cases.
