UK Government Judicial System
The United Kingdom consists of three main legal systems which have been designed indigenously. Each of these three systems, have their own legal rules, courts and legal professions, and are based geographically.
England and Wales Law
England and Wales together forms one jurisdiction. Wales always has distinct a legal system from England. All the national courts (High Court, House of Lords & Court of Appeal ) are situated in London, but there are local courts (Magistrates’ Courts and County Courts) throughout the country and many Crown Court across many locations.
Northern Ireland Judicial System
Northern Ireland has some distinct features in its system, and is centered at Belfast. The unusual features are mainly due to the political instability and violence which prevailed ever since its establishment.
Scotland Legal Laws
Scotland had its own system of laws and courts located at Edinburgh much before its union with England and Wales in 1707. The Act of Union of 1707 specifically allowed these to continue, thus Scotland retains many distinct features from the English system
Though lot many laws applies to just one of these jurisdictions, laws can also be applied by an Act of Parliament, to all or any combination of them. Thus, the United Kingdom as a whole including (England, Wales and Scotland) or England, Wales and Northern Ireland can also be seen as distinct jurisdictions.
